On the dust of the desert and snow of the steppe, the Japanese off-road MPV provides comfort and safety for your trip. These 4x4 vehicles are specifically tuned for the rough off-roading that's inevitable when traveling in the wilds of Mongolia. They provide ample space, climate control and are well maintained, while offering ample luggage space, seat belts and speed.


At Tour Mongolia we believe that a good guide is essential to the enjoyment of any trip. Your guide will be English speaking and hand picked by us to suit your itinerary and requirements. During your journey you will be staying at a luxury lodge, a ger camp in Hustai and in a centrally located Ulaanbaatar hotel. Gers are equipped with beds, linen, stove, table and chairs and have electric lightning, while lodge features hotel-standard rooms and huts.

Your guide and driver will meet you in the morning at a pre-arranged location in Ulaanbaatar, it can be the airport if you arrive today or your hotel. First, there will be a morning visit to the Gandan Monastery – enter the temples, including that of the Migjid Janraisig with its huge golden Buddha statue. In the old temple complex listen to the chanting ceremonies which happen mid-morning. Have lunch and check-in to your hotel room, then meet your guide again at 14:30 go for a leisurely walk across the impressive Sukhbaatar Square to visit the National History Museum with its well-laid out informative displays showcasing the country’s fascinating past. Afterwards, walk west towards the State Department Store, and enjoy an intimate performance of Winter Melody music and dance art group at. A welcome dinner at one of our favorite Mongolian restaurants rounds off your day.

Today enjoy the sights and sounds of the annual eagle festival that takes place near in Jargalantiin Am of Chinggisiin Khuree, near Ulaanbaatar. The celebrations begin with a colorful opening parade of Kazakh falconers, followed by the demonstration of eagle hunting skills. The competitions then begin in earnest – eagles and their owners are judged on various qualities, including the ability of the eagle to fly from the top of the adjacent hill down to its owner and also to catch the ‘prey’ (usually a fox skin) that is pulled behind a horse. There are also prizes for the best turned-out bird, and best dressed hunter. In addition to these eagle-related competitions, there are horsemanship competitions, goat carcass tug-o-war, and archery. Enjoy lunch at the festival site – huushuur (fried dumplings) are the typical fare at festivals. You will be also able to try your hand at traditional Mongolian archery if some of bows and arrows are available. After the closing ceremony in the afternoon return to Ulaanbaatar in time for dinner.

After breakfast, meet your guide at the hotel’s lobby at 08:30, hop into the vehicle and journey east to Terelj National Park, stopping quickly en route at the sacred Turtle Rock which you can climb up and hike to the nearby Aryabal Meditation Temple set on a hill. The National Park yields some great scenery which makes it a very popular weekend getaway for both locals and tourists alike. However, you will now pass through the main valley, and after Terelj village cross over the frozen river, where you will stop at a family’s ger – step inside and experience local hospitality, drink milk tea, and enjoy homemade lunch, while the horses are being prepared outside. Then saddle up for an hour ride up into the valley towards Jalman Mountain and along the east side of the Saikhan Saridag range of hills. No horse riding experience is necessary – Mongolian horses are small and we match horses to riders – you should be comfortable quickly and your guide will be there to assist. Then drive to your lodge in time for dinner, and if you are not afraid of cold – enjoy some incredible stargazing of the clear, Mongolian sky.

After breakfast, drive a short distance to the dog sledding starting point where your musher will make the preparation for your 1-hour ride. Then enjoy the scenery of the frozen Terelj River and the national park while being pulled by a team of huskies. You should be able to cover at least 5km. Afterwards, have lunch at a nomadic family’s ger, and experience the nomadic life – early spring is the time animals are being born, also cashmere is being combed from goats. Your hosts will prepare the horses, then hop onto the sleigh and enjoy horse sleighing in the area for another hour. You will then return to your lodge for a well deserved dinner.

After breakfast set of for some great off-road vehicle excursion to the remarkable Chinggis Statue complex near Erdene. Once you arrive, climb up inside until you reach the exterior staircase which runs up the mane of the horse to a viewpoint overlooking the Tuul River, Terelj & the hills of Khan Khentii – Chinggis’ homeland.

Then, visit the nearby Gyrocopter pad and take a 10-minute flight over the Chinggis Statue and enjoy the panoramic views from above Mongolia.

Upon landing back on the ground it’s back to Ulaanbaatar – arrive on time for dinner and settle in your hotel room for the night.

After a leisurely breakfast jump in the vehicle for the journey west to Hustai. You should arrive at your ger camp in time for lunch. The camp is located at the entrance to the Hustai National Park, and you will have some time to rest before venturing inside. In the afternoon drive from your camp to see the Takhi – this is the time when they gather to feed so you have a better chance of seeing them up close and in the accessible areas. You may want to combine the trip with a longer walk in the park – in which case you should leave a little earlier. Discuss your preference with your guide. Afterwards head back to camp for dinner and your night in a real Mongolian ger.

Today you head to Bogd Khaan Mountain, perhaps taking the scenic back route from Hustai, along the Tuul River. You can discuss timings and preference with your guide. On arrival at the park entrance, visit Manzushir ruins – see the restored temple museum, and wander around the monastery. Afterwards, head up on the hill trails to the summit. Once back down, board the vehicle and drive back to Ulaanbaatar where you will have farewell dinner.

At community-based camps and ger homestays, single occupancy is subject to availability. Single and twin/double occupancy at ger camps require an extra supplement as shown in the above table.
