Carved like a human being, stone men monuments are widespread in Mongolia. Studies show that mankind had created the stone men monuments from the Early Bronze Age to the Middle Ages. Mongolia has a big resource of stone men monuments. It is recorded that stone men monuments were found in almost each province of Mongolia. Currently, over 500 stone men monuments are discovered and registered. These monuments can be divided into two groups such as Turkic and Great Mongol Empire. The most famous stone memorials found on the territory of Mongolia belong to the Turkic period. The valuable stone memorials of Toniyukuk, Bilge Khan and Kultegin found in the Orkhon Valley hold the history of the ancestors of today’s 70 million Turkish people. There three generals who were the latest leaders of the Central Asia inscribed on the memorials how they had made the great state. The scripts on the side of the memorial are in Runic having a history of 1200 years. The stone memorials, still existing in Orkhon Valley and evidencing the great history, are registered by UNESCO as cultural heritage.
Located in Dariganga soum of Sukhbaatar province to the 45 kilometers northeast, and the unpredictable extent of the left is suddenly downhill. It is a unique place for a 40 meter tall, 1 km long rock cliff. The valley is called the “Hurugiin Hundii” in the west of the valley. There are seven Man stone in here. The most common feature of Man stone in the valleys is that they are all depicted in a sitting on the something, which is distinguished from the Turkic era. And most of them were depicted with hat, boots, and they were naked and carved breasts and carved in the lower part of the male gender symbol. In 2004 the area was protected in order to protect rare monuments of this nature.
Located 7 kilometers north of the center of Khalkhgol soum of Dornod province and is considered as a Man stone built for the XIII-XIY century aristocracy burial. At the time of the funeral of the people, the researchers explained that the custom of the deceased’s soul and the life of a deceased person was raised, and that Man stone was built as an eternal protector. People in the eastern part of Mongolia are mostly made up of Turkes since the Turkic period. They are made of sitting on the chairs, dresses with the traditional clothes and holding something in their hands.
Located in the Bayan-Agt soum 25km from Bulgan province Man stone standing on the top small hill of Shiveet Ulaan, north side of the Hanui and Hunui river bank. This monument honored of Kutuluk Khaan who has titled Elteres. There are 9 Man stones, 4 stone lions and 4 sheep stone. The stones are carved like dressed traditional clothes.
