TOUR OVERVIEW

This fantastic trip gives you the opportunity to enjoy the classic event famed as the “Nomad Olympics” and takes you to behind the cultural background of ancient traditions inherited from generations to generations for centuries along. When taking a part in the Naadam festival you will experience the thrill of watching hundreds of racing horses with their remarkable young riders, strong wrestlers performing the “Eagle dance” and traditionally dressed archers drawing their bows and impressive competition of ankle bones shooting. But our tour doesn’t stop there. You will also have the chance to discover the training of the fast horses and to explore more in-depth about the preparation of wrestlers and the traditional technique of archery.

Travel to Mongol Nomadic Ger camp

We will pick you up from your hotel and travel to Mongol Nomadic ger camp which will take 50kms located west of Ulaanbaatar city.
Then we will enjoy the Mongol nomadic show. One place to another using an ox, yak, camel and horse carts which are the carts traditionally used during the Golden Age of Mongol Empire until now.

We will also see:

– Demonstration of everyday life of traditional Mongolian family and herders in a real life,
– Making dairy products and offer the taste of it,
– Live demonstration of the movement of Mongolian herder family by the carts including ox cart and by the camel freight,
– Live demonstration of milking yaks, fastening and milking sheep, goats and milking the mare.
– Making the felt and tanning process
– Demonstration of national musical instrument and singing folk songs,
– Horsemanship shows.
We will have a lunch in ger camp.
After the lunch enjoy Mongol Nomadic Naadam festival.
All visitors will be greeted and welcomed to the arena to join the Naadam.
The event will begin with a Mongolian long song & horse head fiddle performance according to Mongolian tradition. Then 16 strong wrestlers compete in 1st round of the wrestling tournament.
Archery competition and ankle bone shooting competition will be followed afterwards.
Local artists will perform Mongolian dances and national songs.
Guests can practice archery and ankle bone shooting, and all guests would see how nomads transport their loads with ox cart.
The most interesting part of Naadam festival is the horse racing. Little jockeys will sing the Giingoo or a special song to encourage the horses to win the race.
The winners of the competitions will be awarded with sheep and other traditional gifts. You have the opportunities to meet with wrestlers, jockeys and archers to take the memorable photos. Optional horse riding is available. We’ll be staying overnight in ger camp. LD

TRAVEL TO HUSTAI NATIONAL PARK  
We will travel to Hustai National Park which will take 100kms. The National Park covers an area of 50.620ha reserve, protecting the wild Mongolian horses famed as Takhi or Przewalski’s horse. We will visit the information center and get more insight about the Takhi horse. Then we will visit the Hustai National Park and spot the wild horses hiking around the area followed by a visit of the Turkic historical place called Ungut, the ancient graveyard of 7th century. We will be staying overnight in ger camp.BLD

TRAVEL BACK TO ULAANBAATAR
We will travel back to Ulaanbaatar which will take 100kms. Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar we will transfer you to your hotel. End of the service. B

INFORMATION

Private tour: This trip is available as a private tour too, and you can book it on any day of your choice for you and your family or friends. Just email us with your proposed dates and your group size for pricing.

Occupancy: you can stay in a single, twin or double room/ger/tent (where applicable). Single occupancy may not be possible during the Naadam festival (July 5th -15th) at ger camps. At community-based camps and ger homestays, single occupancy is subject to availability. Single and twin/double occupancy at ger camps require an extra supplement as shown in the above table.

Discounts*: Our clients can take an opportunity to get following discount options:

  • Early bird discount of 10% is applicable for bookings made 6 months in advance.
  • Children up to 2 years old travel free, 3-8 years old get 40% off and 9-12 years old get 20% off. Age as on the last day of the tour.
  • 10% off if 3 or more friends book the trip together
