On this well-paced trip, you will follow the footsteps of Chinggis Khan and experience the unique nomadic culture, while surrounded by the natural wonders of the Khentii Mountain Range. This tour takes you to Mongolia’s most sacred and honoured lake, Khar Zurkhnii Khukh, where Temuujin was enthroned as Chinggis Khan by the Ikh Khuraldai, or Great Council, in 1189. Later, we will explore the Uglugch Wall – a famous cultural and archaeological site where ancient tribes buried their nobles. Another highlight of this tour is the Chinggis Khaan Statue and Terelj National Park.
Steppe Horse Camp – Khukhuur Valley
You will be picked up from a pre-arranged Ulaanbaatar location at a time to suit you – we suggest leaving around 8:00 am to make the most of the day. Jump in the vehicle with your guide and head northeast of the Khentii Province. On the way, stop at the local eatery for lunch. After lunch, head north to the camp where the stunning Khukhuur Valley, the legendary spot where Chinggis Khaan became friends with Boorch, marking the beginning of his great career. That is not just a place to stay—it’s a chance to connect with Mongolia’s rich past and create epic memories. In the evening, enjoy a home-cooked dinner, and stay overnight in the Steppe Horse eco camp. LD

Visit Nomad family – Horse ride – Friendship statue
After a leisurely breakfast, head to the Monument of Friendship located in the Khukhuur Valley, the historic spot where Chinggis Khaan became friends with Honour Boorch, marking the beginning of his great career. On the way back to the camp, visit a nomadic family for an insight into daily life and customs. Enjoy a traditional meal, “Khorkhog”, truly Mongolian barbeque, made in a real nomadic way as the meat dish is grilled with hot stones, and has a unique taste. After lunch, a few hours of horse riding through the stunning Khukhuur Valley. Additionally, try archery with a traditional bow and test your accuracy against a target. You’ll enjoy a traditional dinner in the camp. Stay overnight in the Steppe Horse eco camp. BLD

Birthplace of Chinggis Khaan – Meeting with nomadic people – Homestay
After a hearty breakfast, head north further to Dadal Soum, where you will be staying overnight, alongside the herder Buryat family. Visit the nomad family and taste traditional dairy products such as Aaruul, curdled milk dried in the sun; Suutei Tsai, salty milk tea; Bread Buriat, homemade bread made with yoghurt, fried on a hot plate; and Tsotsgii, Handmade butter cream mixed with blackberries, and so on. While staying here, you will have plenty of opportunities to explore the nomadic way of life by talking with family members, learning about, and sharing their daily jobs and customs. The hostess of the family will show and teach you how to produce tasty and nutritious dairy products of “Aaruul” and “Byaslag”, a Mongolian cheese and blend traditional vodka called “Shimiin Arkhi”. You will enjoy a traditional Mongolian meal for your lunch. In the late afternoon, we will trek to the birthplace of the great Khaan and other sacred sites. If time allows, visit the Chinggis Khaan complex in the Dadal Soum. Stay overnight in Ger alongside the herder Buriat family. BLD

Travel to Binder
After a leisurely breakfast, head west to the larch-covered mountain and river, the Onon Valley, offering stunning panoramic views of the Taiga. Will have lunch at the local eatery in the soum centre. In the afternoon, visit the Ikh Khuraldai complex, located in the Binder Soum. A structure symbolising the Nine White Banners is currently being built at the site where the Great Mongol Empire was established. The 21-meter main hall will be a silvery-white palace with a capacity of 300 people. Stay overnight at the local hotel. BLD

Uglugch Wall – Rock Rashaan – Monastery Baldanbereeven
After a leisurely breakfast, head southeast to a cultural heritage site, the Uglugch Wall, for 50 km. You can explore this ancient historical area, which preserves the secrets of Mongolian history and features interesting architectural remains. Then drive to Rashaant Khad, where ancient petroglyphs, tribal stamps, and ancient scripts from Arabian-Persian, Chinese, Tibetan, and Mongolian traditions are found. Many finds, such as Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic tools; Early Bronze Age deer stones; and graves of the Huns and Kidan Empires, have been excavated in this area. Exploring around the site and enjoying a special spot where Chinggis Khaan stands and rules his army. Continue travelling to Baldan Bereeven for 76 km. Stay overnight in the guest house. Blue Lake – Gun Galuut NR
After a hearty breakfast, we will head south to the famous historical site, Khar Zurkhnii Khukh lake, where Temujin was enthroned as king of the united tribes of Mongolia and titled “Chinggis Khaan” in 1189. While exploring the area, your guide will tell an interesting story about the ancient Mongols. After lunch, continue driving to the Gun Galuut Nature Reserve. In the evening, a short drive to spot Argali -wild Mountain sheep in the Berkh Mountain. BLD (altitude approx. 1613m above sea level)

Chinggis Khaan Statue
After breakfast, set off for the remarkable Chinggis Khaan Statue complex for 80 km. Once you arrive, climb up inside until you reach the exterior staircase which runs up the mane of the horse to a viewpoint overlooking the Tuul River, Terelj & the hills of the Khan Khentii and visit the horse culture museum in the complex. Then, will have lunch. After lunch, return to Ulaanbaatar, where you will be dropped off at a location of your choice (we can make multiple drop-offs if required). BL
