An uncommon adventure will take you through the wilderness of Western Altai, Mongolia’s highest mountain. From the snow-covered peaks to the rivers running through breathtaking valleys, this journey will immerse you into untouched beautiful nature and the rich cultural heritages of western Mongolia. A great opportunity to meet the various ethnic minorities like Muslim Kazakh people who practice their unique tradition of training of Golden Eagle is a part of the highlights of this journey.
Day 1 Travel to western Mongolia
Morning pick up at your guide at your hotel and transfer to airport. Flight to Ulgii town, the center of Bayan-Ulgii, the westernmost province of Mongolia. Meet with your guide and local service team. Continue on travel as heading to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park for 100kms. Stay overnight in tent. LD
Day 2 Travel to Altai Tavan Bogd
Morning you will continue the drive to Altai Tavan Bogd for 140kms. On the way you will enjoy ancient dear statues and archaeological burial sites. Reach to our camping spot nearby Tuvan ethnic nomads. Enjoy short hike to neighboring mountain. In the evening you will meet with your local assistants who will care our entire luggage, camping equipments and food provisions for transporting by pack camels, rented from local people. No vehicle will be supporting our trip for next seven days. Stay overnight in tent. BLD
Day 3 Trek to Tavan Bogd Mountains
After hearty breakfast in the morning, we will trek to the Tavan Bogd Holy Mountains. Enjoy an extraordinary view of Mongolian highest mountains and glaciers while trekking about 4-5hours for 16kms of moderate walk through slightly sloping passes. We will reach to a base camp spot on the edge of the Potaniin’s Glacier. Stay overnight in tent. BLD (altitude app. 3100m above sea level)
Day 4 Climbing to Malchin Mountain
Today we will climb up to the peak of Malchin Mountain, that stretches for 4051m above sea level, as the lowest peak of Tavan Bogd Mountains. This mountain lies along the borderline of Mongolia and Russia and offers a spectacular view over the Potanin’s glacier and snow peaked summits of Altai Mountain Range. Trek back to the base camp. Day 5 Trek to Shiveet Khairkhan
Trekking for 18kms along the Tsagaan River through stunning valley. Reach the Shiveet Khairkhan Mountain, is sacred to local people and it boasts many herds of wild goats – ibex. Visit to Tuvan nomad family. Overnight stay in tent. BLD (altitude app. 2500m above sea level)
Day 6 Exploring ancient rock art gallery – UNESCO World heritage site
Trekking for 20kms along with mountain valley of Khar Salaa. Most interestingly you will explore dear statues and thousands of petroglyphs spanning the past 8-10000 years as keeping secrets of ancient civilizations of nomadic people. On the way of the trek you will enjoy beautiful small lakes as a home to different spacious of water birds. Stay overnight in tent nearby a nomad family. BLD (altitude app. 2450m above sea level)
Day 7 Trek to mountain pass Takhilt
Trekking to mountain pass Takhilt about 7-8kms. Crossing over the pass will require quite much efforts when it covered by snow. You will continue the trek about 10kms through the beautiful valley called Baavgait (Bear). Stay overnight in tent. BLD (altitude app. 3300m above sea level)
Day 8 Trek to small lakes
Trek for 16-18kms to your next camping spot where you will take a fabulous view of the lakes. Stay overnight in tent. BLD (altitude app. 2200m above sea level)
Day 9 Trekking to Khoton Lake
On our last day trek we will cover about 25kms for reaching to most beautiful Lake Khoton. Enjoy a miraculous view of reflection of surrounding snow peaked mountains over the lake. Here you will be registered at the Border military base of Aral Tolgoi. Stay overnight in tent. (altitude app. 2200m above sea level) BLD
Day 10 Relaxing
Today we will explore another cultural site with hundreds of petroglyphs. Visit to a Kazakh nomad family to learn more about their lifestyle and unique tradition of Golden eagle training for hunting. Afternoon we will have a rest at the campsite. While enjoying breathtaking scenery you will have an opportunity to learn how to make Mongolian dish and playing traditional game. Stay overnight in tent. BLD (altitude app. 2200m above sea level)
Day 11 Travel to Ulgii town
Morning we will say goodbye to our local mountain guide, camp assistants and pack camels. Continue on travel by car for driving about 230kms to Ulgii town. Stay overnight in Ger camp. BLD
Day 12 Flight back to Ulaanbaatar
Travel to domestic airport and take a flight to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to your hotel. End of the service. B

Private tour: This trip is available as a private tour too, and you can book it on any day of your choice for you and your family or friends. Just email us with your proposed dates and your group size for pricing.
Occupancy: you can stay in a single, twin or double room/ger/tent (where applicable). Single occupancy may not be possible during the Naadam festival (July 5th -15th) at ger camps. At community-based camps and ger homestays, single occupancy is subject to availability. Single and twin/double occupancy at ger camps require an extra supplement as shown in the above table.
